What is Fiber Laser technology ?
High power Fiber Lasers are made of active optical fiber and semiconductor laser diodes – a combination of two of the most innovative and advanced laser technologies. These lasers use diodes as a light source for pumping the active fiber. The laser beam is generated in the optical fiber and is transmitted by flexible armored cable. Special active fibers are doped with rare-earth ions, allowing extremely powerful generation of very small core, which makes it possible to produce a kilowatt power lasers with excellent beam quality. „IPG “uses a lot of proprietary technology to create arguably the best kilowatts” Fiber “lasers available on the market today. Inflated radiation is generated by a large number of laser diodes and to an input of the optical fiber. There with the help of input “Bragg mirrors”, the wavelength of the generated laser beam is limited about 1070 μm. This wavelength is about one tenth of the wavelength of a CO2 laser, which are mainly used until today. The average lifespan of the diodes is over 100,000 hours. Generated laser beam is with very high quality, with a wavelength of 1070 [μm] and divergence about 8 [mm * mrad] and it can be transmitted with unchanged quality up to a distance of 50 [m].The active core of the fiber has a thickness only few micrometers. Transition of the laser beam between the resonator and the cutting head is carried over fiber. This means that there is no need for mirrors, thus avoiding the regular replacement of costly mirrors, cleaning and adjustment of the external optical way. In comparison with the CO2 laser, which is widely used in the industry until now, “Fiber” laser has ten times less wavelength, which makes it possible to cut the materials, which were “problem”. As the laser beam with this kind of wavelength, that absorbed much better than the material, it allows you to cut non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper or brass. The ability to focus the laser beam is improved, there is a higher rate of cutting, heat dissipation in the material is lower and the cut surface is more smooth.
